Default Your First Car?

Ok, Cary's sticky mentions any vintage topic is welcome - so what was your first car? I had a '64 Fury ; 361ci with a push button auto tran. Had 160,000 on it by the time it got around to me. Next I had an orange AMC Gremlin.. ....but it had a 304ci and manual tran...ugly as heck, but suprisingly quick off the line... which won a few bets for me.

A new silver 1986 Nissan SX stick shift when I turned 16. I could almost but a complete PA system & my guitar/amp in it....as long as there were no passengers. That was my "beater".... I think I put 80,000 miles on it in two years!

I long for a touring van or RV now!

Here's one that will test your memory...

My first car was a 1977 Chevy Monza -- it had been in a crash, so someone had paired the front-end of the coupe with the back-end of a hatchback. Truly one of a kind. And that's a good thing. That car sucked. 4-cylinder engine with manual transmission, which added up to absolutely no performance. But my dad let me drive his pale yellow 66 caddy to prom, so that was cool!

Excellent question! It was either that, The Cars or the Police.

Default Ahh Memories....

'65 Volkswagen Squareback bought it in late '78 - put in a Clarion state of the art cassette stereo - almost as much as I paid for the car! You most likely would have heard - Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" or UFO's Obsession Album cranked to the max as we headed out to our favorite surf spot.

Man doe's that bring back good memories...

Like the choice of Stranglehold. I saw Ted in Milwaukee in the late 70s - he was the last act in the "Grand Slam Jam," which if I remember correctly included Heart, Journey and Foreigner. This was at old County Stadium. That's also where I saw the Brewers win the Pennant over the Angels in 1982, but that's a story for another time.

Anyway, that night Ted was so LOUD that I actually crouched down on one knee on the outfield grass, because that way the people standing in front of me helped to shield the sound and reduce the volume. I've never heard anything that loud before or since -- not even when I saw White Zombie on their first tour.
