Default Can't believe I bought another guitar...

So it's a Saturday morning and my mom calls me from an estate sale in Sturgeon Bay, WI...seems there's this guitar for sale. Turns out to be an Epiphone "Genesis" Custom made somewhere around 1979, either in Japan or Taiwan. 15 minutes of research on the Internet shows that owners of these guitars really love them. Here's the skinny:

Double-cut LP-style all-mahogany body
LP-style trapezoid fretboard inlays
2 exposed-coil humbuckers with 3-way switch and coil tap mini-toggle
t-o-m bridge with stop bar tailpiece
said to be heavy but with great sustain and classic humbucker tone

The guitar at the auction is from the estate of a music teacher and is in its original case and still has its original coiled guitar cord. Everything looks to be in mint condition. So...I bought it! And now I can't wait for it to get here.

Here are a couple of photos from the auction web site:

Wow... that looks like a late 70's Roland GR-300 Guitar Synth (without the Synth part)

The GR-300 was made famous by Pat Metheny, giving his lead tone a trumpet horn quality with amazing tracking.... He still plays one live.

Reminds me a lot of the Yamaha SG as well...

YouTube - Howard tests the crap out of a Yamaha SG2000

By the way, stick with Howard if you decide to watch the clip. The first few minutes are tedious, but it gets better...and you'll find yourself thinking about buying a Yamaha by the time he's through. He says he should be a Yamaha salesman -- he's probably right!

Default Nice guitar.

Excellent! I only have one guitar . One day I will get a nice vintage guitar. Guitars are now just made by a factory instead of by hand so it would be nice to have a guitar of that quality. But even guitars after 1969 can be copied today because the wood made in pre-1970 guitars was illegal to import after 1969. If you get the chance check outVintage Stratocaster blog.
