Default Presonus ADL600 :: Two-Channel High-Voltage Tube Preamp

These two Presonus ADL600's are the two newest additions to the downstairs studio. I'm very pleased with them, especially when paired with our Royer Ribbon Mics (2 x R-121 or the SF-12 stereo mic).

I'm interested in hearing about other people's experience with the ADL600 and what opinions they have of these and how they might stack up to other tube mic pres on the market.

I'm in the middle of a project right now with them and I'll be sure to post some of the music we record with them.

How are you liking them so far? Have you compared them to the Avalon 737sp? Every studio I've been in lately has had the Avalons...and I've done some great sounding vocals and acoustic guitars through them... but they are a bit pricey for my home studio.

How do you use the Presonus Pres? All of the engineers I've worked with lately use the Avalons, simply as mic pres/gain with a bit of preventive compression. They then apply the EQ, dessing, and hard compression, etc. in the DAW. I have the JoeMeek transistor based OneQ that sounds like a console with a bit of color...but not as warm/round as Avalon tube sound. The Joemeek has a great A/D converter built in. When I add the VC One plug-in that comes with Sonar 6 Producer Edition, I can pretty much replicate the Avalon....enough to fool a grammy winning engineer.

I know one very famous jazz oriented guitarist who uses multiple Avalons for everything (gain, EQ, compression)...both in the studio and in his live rig. His guitar sounds magical....and his signal chain is worth more than a sports car.
