| Hope your son is healing up just fine! I was at a friend's house outside of Denver a couple of months ago who had a Pocket Pod hooked up through his multi-room stereo system and a cheap Samson wireless system for the guitar (an 80's Mexi Strat). He could walk around the house with the guitar and go to the living room to switch tones on the Pod. Talk about 360 sound! We were having a blast going through the presets and playing along to classic rock covers.on the iPod he had hooked up to it. I already have 3 Pods (not the pocket one), so I'm going to skip on getting this one. I'm going to Hawaii tomorrow and I'm contemplating bringing my nylon string. My wife is challenging me to go this whole vacation unattached to something electronic.....hard to do considering the iPod, Phone, and the digital camera....

| Hey Adaptable, Hmmm - wireless with speakers throughout the house so I can play in every room - what a great idea - only problem is my wife isn't a fan of most of the music I play! (she likes the ballads though) Thanks for asking about my son, he's recovering fine - his second surgery in 2 years - triple jump is hard on the knees! Have a great time in Hawaii lucky dog! Hopefully the wife will exclude the iPod - you need something for the plane right? Aloha! |

| I ended up bringing my Nylon String and also splurging on a great little Hawaiian Koa Wood Concert Ukulele like the one Cary has. I'm having a blast cranking out the 7th chords on it....folks think I'm a local! This place is another world.

| Thanks Badger for the well-wishes for my son - looks like his track career is over. He's a senior and on his way to college later this year so he's not to sad about it - just so long as he can surf and snowboard! He's the last of my 3 boys out the door -I'll soon be an empty nester! More guitar time! Glad to hear Adaptable is having a good time - hopefully he wasn't booked on Aloha Airlines! Like to find out more about your trip when you return - Aloha No G |

| Maybe we should considering moving this post... We just returned from 7 nights on the big island of Hawaii. By far the best vacation I've taken for many reasons. First of all, we spent half the time at the Sheraton resort near Kona (great) and the other half at the Four Seasons (spectacular).... After a day or so on the island I wondered into the Music Exchange in Kona and got a great education on ukulele construction, woods, and general sound comparisons. I picked up a Hawaiian handmade koa wood concert ukulele for ~$650 with the hardshell case. Strumming it and even smelling it makes me feel like I'm on vacation..... I picked it up instantly (its basically tuned GCEA....which is basically the same as DGBE but with the D tuned an octave higher)....so a guitarist can feel at home very quickly...and the high-G on the "closest" string to the bottom affords some interesting possibilities. After a few days of sitting on the hotel room balcony I felt like I had the thing mastered.... Then I went to the Four Seasons awesome Hawaiian Cultural Center and got a lesson...and humbled. The instructor turned me on to some strumming patterns and various chords that are a bit off the radar for guitar....She recommended some great music like Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (what a voice!), Hapa, and the reining Carlos Santana/Steve Vai of the ukulele, Jake Shimabukuro. I ended up playing a bit of an impromptu concert for my work colleagues...and got a warm reception by all of the locals (I need to make an extra $1M to buy my dream vacation home!). We ended up seeing most of the Big Island except for the Volcano (we were told it was a bit too far to travel to "maybe" see the lava flow)....but the Northern end of the island was heaven on earth looking at Maui and sipping Kona coffee in Hawi. We also caught part of the Merrie Monarch Hula festival in Hilo (I almost got divorced on the spot)...saw various waterfalls...drank coconut from the shell...stared at the ocean a lot.... I don't think I've ever comeback from anywhere so relaxed (including Australia!....no offense, mate). Aloha
