For those not in the know here is the info I pulled from MF:

The signature guitar of Mick Thompson, Slipknot.

Tone, features and playability make the Ibanez MTM2 Electric Guitar as awe-inspiring (and dangerous looking) an instrument as the artist who designed it. This is a guitar made for heavy rock and metal, featuring Ibanez covered V7 & V8 pickups, a mahogany body for rich warm lows and sweet sustain, and 24 jumbo frets offering easy playing for leads and chording. Factory tuned to Mick's preference of C# tuning, with a dropped B: B, F#, B, E, G#, C# (low to high).

Ibanez MTM2 Electric Guitar Features:

* Fixed Edge III double locking bridge
* Ibanez covered V7 & V8 pickups
* Mahogany body
* Bolt on neck
* 24/Jumbo frets

Well, as an Ibanez player I can offer the following - I LOVE the necks on these guitars! I don't know if you have seen the "show us your gear" thread. I play a 2570E 6 string with edge pro and the 7321 7 String Model - both great guitars and I really enjoy them.

I took a look at MTM2 and it is VERY alluring - although I felt that it was limiting with the fixed Edge III bridge - if you wanted to play anything other than C# you'd have to grab another guitar - kinda difficult to tune on the fly. So if you're only gonna play in drop tunings this is a contender.

I also prefer fretboard inlays - I guess I'm not so good that I still don't cheat a bit to find my way around. I have a guitar in my collection without the markers - sure you're standing up you can't really see the fretboard face anyway, but sometimes you can catch a glimpse of it now and then and it's reassuring to have a them there. Maybe just my inexperience talking. One more note on that subject - I played a gig where it was dark and even the small inlays across the top of the fingerboard were hard to see. I ended up putting glow in the dark paint over the them for reference!

Since the guitar is in the $600.00 range street price I would shop around a bit. ESP as Cary reported is coming out with some sweet models with EMG's in that range. So is Schecter (ie more Hellraiser models) and now Epiphone's Prophecy line (both in SG or LP versions, same price range) shown below . Ibanez has some new models also.

I would wait just a little while longer until the NAMM stuff hits the market in the next few months - you'll have a lot to choose from.
