Online Lessons

Hey everyone. This is my first post here and it will definitely not be my last in what appears to be a great forum for all things guitar.
I was wondering if anybody had any insight to some of the online resources for lessons. I have just recently picked up the guitar back up after a very long lay off. Played a bit in my teens but after school, job and family the guitar got left behind. Now that kids are older and job is secure I have got the itch to start playing again but this time I want to have some sctructure and not just goof around like I did when I was younger. I travel quite extensively for my job and that is why I am looking online for lessons as I am not around enough to set something up locally. I am leaning towards Workshop Live, but would be open to any suggestions anyone has. Thanks.

My only experience with online guitar lessons has been with Workshop Live, and they really do provide an excellent user experience. I believe you can get a free 7-day trial, too, if you look around a bit.

If you have a Line6 Pod or Port...try Line 6 - GuitarPort Online I did the free 30 day trial and picked up a bunch of neat riffs and useful lessons. A lot of the stuff is taught by Wolf Marshall, who is very well respected and versatile. If I had more time I would sign up and do more lessons, but I have enough on my plate with the band and learning the occasional new tune for the set list.

I get a lot more out of just learning more tunes by ear at this point, but I can see were the Line6 stuff would be good for folks starting out or moving to the next level.

If you want to improve your playing over a year or so, I strongly recommend Mick Goodrick's The Advancing Guitarist. This book will help you find your own voice on the instrument, and challenge you in ways no single lesson can.
