Wow, Badger you've got some great vintage instruments there. I love that Jag (gorgeous finish, too,) and you're right about Epiphone––these days they seem to be seriously under-rated.

I'm a bit jealous of adaptable's Power Tele, too... nice

Thanks Cary. I've included another photo that shows just how played that Jag is -- today we're paying the Custom Shop thousands of $ to do this to brand new guitars!

By the way, your Guild has some serious cool factor. How does that guitar sound through an amp? I've never heard those old Guild pickups (DeArmonds?).

Side by side to the real instrument, the Variax sounds almost as good as strats and teles.... and perhaps just as good with Les Pauls, 335s, and other assorted solid bodies/semis....and enough to be convincing live with 12 strings, sitars, jazz hollow bodies, and other assorted instruments.

If it played/felt more like a Strat or Tele and had a couple of Texas Specials in it, I would use it exclusively. I'm even considering transplanting the electronics in a vintage feeling tele someday.

In the studio, I can hear the high end cut out on longer sustaining notes, and sometimes the attacks sound awkward on the 12 strings and acoustics, but live I consistently get compliments on my sound. I can swap to radically different sounds in the middle of a song with a flick of a foot pedal (with the PodXT Live).

It is a wonderful instrument for live gigs with a lot of variety. Also...it has NO noise...no matter how freaky the signal chain is!

Some great guitars here. My gear might not be up to par as some but here we go.

Epiphone G-400, Not the Gibson but I love it anyway.

Early 70's Hofner 4574 VTZ, I have had it for quite awhile. Was sitting up in the attic for about 10 years. Needs some work but still sounds great.

Sigma DM-1 Acoustic, was my step daughters but she gave up the guitar after about a month so I started playing it.

Crate RFX30 amp, temporary amp until I get better. Does have some decent tone though.

Senna - that Hofner is really cool. Looks like it has all of those switches that were popular in that era, so i'm guessing it gives you a great variety of tones.

Badger,
The guitar has what Hofner called active electronics. It has fuzz and treble circuits built into the guitar and works off a 9-volt battery installed in the back. It can be a bit tempermental, probably have some wires loose. Once time is on my side I plan on doing some work on the guitar and get some of the small issues fixed. The trouble I am having is getting any info about the guitar. It amazing how little info is out there regarding Hofners.

Although I moved on to using a Fender Jazz Fretless, I had my beginnings with a 1967 Gibson EB-2.. I still have it and still use it occasionally when I am looking for the smooth blues sound....

Here is a photo of it....

Default 3 Roarin' Red Guitars

Here are Los Tres Amigos Rojos. A Ric610, 330 and a PRS '86 Standard24 w/sweet switch and regular neck carve. They look like they were sprayed from the same can of paint. The 330 sees the most action although it can be a squealer. I have an '89 PRS CE24 W/T with toggle that is my main axe so BigRed there sees alot of sitting around. The 610 was a majorly underrated instrument as it can go toe to toe with a LesPaul. All the features of a 620 except the binding--I don't like binding. Won't own a guitar with binding.

I got a bunch others that I need to shoot with our new Canon digi. Dan

Well I did something I've been wanting to do for awhile now. I traded that pretty Epi Les Paul I posted earlier in the thread for a Strat. It's just a standard Mexi Strat... but it's my standard Mexi Strat and I'm digging it. Wanted a Strat for a long while now.

Good job, datter––your mexistrat looks great. Nothing to be ashamed of, and the only thing that matters is that you like playing it!

Ahh, curve666, you're making me miss my old Ric 620––pearly white, black hardware, stereo outputs. I loved that thing... why the heck did I sell it? Hey, I've never seen such a color-matched set of instruments.

Gorgeous EB2 as well.
