The distinctive lead tone on Wicked Game is definitely a Fender Stratocaster. I saw Chris' guitarist play this live and it sounded great. It was a new-ish model with a vintage look. I think he may have had locking machine heads on the tuners to use the whammy that much and stay in tune. Live he also used a slide (glass, I believe).
What really makes that tone sound so good is the bright amp (I think it was a Fender Twin Reverb) with just the right about of reverb and tapping delay.
If you like that lead tone....Listen to Robert Plant's Big Log. It's a very similar tone, and feel....perhaps a bit more "Straty"
