| Because its a new Mexican Tele, the finish will be Polyurethane, which means it will probably not fade or change over time, but I have seen newer Fenders where the white pick guard dulls a bit after a few years. I'd pick the midnight wine/white or black....simply because it matches more of my clothes! The funkier Fender colors make the guitar seem dated after a few years. I have a Candy Tangerine colored American Deluxe, and the finish seems a little cheesy when compared to my buddy's vintage and relic models.

| I have a 98 MIM tele that's probable close to the chrome red color you're considering...I really like the finish on this guitar. It's red but definitely has some yellow/orange overtones to it, and can look different as lighting changes. As adaptable said, the finish is almost certainly polyurethane, and the color has not changed at all. |

| I've decided against the blue and white, because my wife's favourite football team wears those exact colours, and I really can't stand that team (Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs). The Red looks nice, but comes with a white pick guard standard, and my other most disliked football team wears Red and White (St George Illawarra Dragons), so I guess it's the midnight wine! I'll probably change my mind a few more times though. Although that turtle sheel pick guard looks neat! Thanks for the input! Further down the track, if I was wanting to repaint it, how would I go about stripping it and repainting? |

| Mexican tele, good choice. That's the only kind of fender I own and I get more play out of it than my Peavey Raptor or Ibanez Jem 555. It's probably my favorite of the single coil guitars and it is the cherry red with white pick guard. It's pretty standard except for my lace sensor single coil pickup that I added for a fatter sound. |

And sadly, the midnight wine is reminiscent of the sea gulls main colour. I'm sorry adaptable. Don't take it personally. |

| well the scores are tied, and I made my choice. I paid a deposit on a Midnight Wine MIM Tele today. It's due to arrive in Australia in 6-8 weeks, but as soon as we pay it off, it'll be living in a cupboard until September 7, my first Father's Day. I'm thinking that one day I'll upgrade the pickups ... are the Fender Noiseless pickups good? Or would you go some sort of Seymour Duncans? |
| ||||
| Fender Noiseless are ok....I have them in my Strat and they are good for rooms with "dirty" electricity....a bit compressed at lower volumes, doesn't twang as much as the real deal...also doesn't overdrive a simple Class A amp much without the assistance of a booster....stays quiet when you do. Personally I prefer the "Texas Specials" which are a bit hotter and chunkier sounding for single coils (love them in the bridge position)...but you take a risk of noise if there is interference. I prefer a humbucker in the neck position, to get a fatter tone and some great upper register distorted lead stuff without noise. I have a Duncan 58 HB in my custom relic tele.
