Default Ibanez Art320-tgb

Good Morning

I want to buy a guitar for my son. Somebody in a German site told me to try the Ibanez ART320-TGB. Anyone know this guitar? He likes punk rock like green day and stuff like that. First he told he want a Les Paul (Gibson is out of question because of the price) but after he experiment one e told it is a lit bit heavy. The more I see, more doubts I have.

He also tried a Ibanez SA

Could you help Me

Ibanez guitars have a good reputation as solid values. I don't like the finish they use on them, but your mileage may vary. The best musician I know (Jazz guitarist/saxophonist) swears by their hollowbodies and won't play anything else.

You could look at the lower end of the Gibson USA line (Specials and Juniors). Great guitars and, while they cost a bit more than that Ibanez (~ +$200, give or take depending on where you buy it), are guitars that your son will never wear out. I guarantee he'll ask for another guitar at some point, but it won't be because he's outgrown a Gibson Special or Junior.

Is this his first guitar? Does he stick with things he tries out, or is he more of a "If I don't get it quick, I'll just put it down." type of kid? If he's persistent with sticking to things (he realizes he'll sound like crap for a few months and is willing to keep with the practicing), I'd go ahead and spend a bit more on the guitar. If he may drop it like a hot potato, I'd be looking into a Squier Strat or Tele - but not from an all in one pack. If he sticks with it, you'll end up buying a guitar at the $500-750 price point anyway.

Default Ibanez Art320

Thank you for your reply. This is his 1st electric Guitar. He have guitar lessons and he have a electric acoustic guitar and he already play very nice for his age (13) but he is very creative and as I told he like sounds like greenday, Billy Talent, Off spring, etc...For you to have an idea, he have to study (school disciplines) one hour every day, after that when he is at home e spent his time playing guitar or skateboarding. It's not a toy for him. I think he have the skill so thats why I prefer to spent a lit bit more. But of course a nice Gibson is too expensive for me (I have another sun (9 years old) playing batery since his 4 years so I have to divide the budget for the two. Somebody told me about the Epiphone but in the otherhand I heard that the components on the Ibanez Art320 are much better (Active pickups for example). Every store I enter they told me that the material they sell are better. Here in Portugal itīs not easy.
