New Tuners Needed

Any suggestions on replacement tuners for my Ibanez Mikro?

Do the Planet Waves locking tuners fit on it? I've heard nothing but good things about them....especially the string changing times. I keep meaning to get a set for my Line6 guitars.

I was going to recommend Gotoh locking tuners. Last year I bought a "parts" tele out in Vegas that has an aftermarket neck on it. Whoever installed the neck chose Gotoh tuners and they are great. Very smooth operation and the guitar definitely stays in tune.

how do they work/what do they achieve?

I have the Fender ones similar to these on my 2002 American Deluxe Strat. String changes are much faster than because the string just has to be inserted, screw locked, and wound.....unfortunately, I haven't played or changed the stings on this guitar in more than a year, so my memory is really fuzzy. Maybe this post is a sign to stop neglecting it. I've been enjoying my newer/more authentic sounding Teles and acoustics more....

I have the Sperzel locking tuners on my Carvin DC127T and they are without a doubt the best tuners I've ever used. Once in tune, the guitar STAYS in tune. Plus they're a breeze to change strings on.

Bear, what's the age of that Carvin? I get their catalogs in the mail and have always wondered about the quality of their guitars. They get mixed reviews on Harmony Central...

I've had mine for about 7 or 8 years and I love it. I play primarily country and fingerstyle so I opted for the Carvin Allan Holdsworth pickups which are very mellow and not too hot. I play clean and these pickups have a nice clear tone, not muddy like Gibson humbuckers but more like Gretsch FilterTrons. I also have a coil tap for each pickup and a phase switch for very Fender Telecaster type tones. Not exact, but really nice.

The Wilkinson vibrato is terrific. It is so smooth. The overall fit and finish of the guitar is outstanding and the action on Carvins is legendary. You can virtually lay the strings on the frets and not get any buzzes or rattles.

On an overall quality level, I would put it a notch above what Gibson and Fender are turning out right now and on a level with PRS or Taylor. The attention to detail is outstanding and Carvin has without a doubt the best potentiometers being made. All of my guitars now have Carvin pots.
