Default What are you listening to?

Alright, well it had to be done. The ol' "what is in your cd player" thread, or these days I guess it should be called "what's on your iPod".

I'll get things going...

I just found out Unearth has a new album out called III: In The Eyes of Fire. Aside from that I have had Eric Clapton - From the Cradle on a pretty steady rotation since I'm going to see him play in March (6th row!).

In my car I have Death - Sound of Perseverance in the cd player.

What are you listening to?

Ahh, great idea, Matt.

I've been on a bit of a Red Hot Chili Peppers kick for the last six months or so––the release of Stadium Arcadium just completely reignited my enthusiasm for John Frusciante's guitar playing... the man just sounds like he's having so much fun on this album. (BTW, Guitar Player published a great "behind the scenes" look at Frusciante's work on Stadium Arcadium––definitely worth a read.)

I've also been listening to First Impressions of Earth by the Strokes (another great guitar-centric band,) some Wilco, Sonic Youth, and a whole lot of early Freddie King and T-Bone Walker.

As always, I've got Metallica's now ancient, but absolutely timeless Master of Puppets within easy reach, not to mention Hendrix, early the Who, Syd Barrett-era Flyod and over 300 other albums right in my pocket.

I heart my iPod.

Chili Peppers - Californication, Replacements - Sorry Ma, Godsmack - Alive,
Skynyrd - Box Set, Dutch Henry - 1973 (check them out at dutchhenry.net - really cool alt country band with killer Tele tones. Greg Miller is their lead guitar player and he's phenomenal)

Just to really mix things up I listened to True Democracy by Steel Pulse over the weekend...

Tom

added to the rotation lately.... Jeff Buckley + Elliot Smith....both under-rated geniuses....also Ryan Adams. There is a lot of good music out there.

I recently ditched the iPod and got a player that supports Microsoft's "Plays for Sure" subscription based music services (Urge, Napster, Rapsody, etc.), and it's been a tremendous way to discover new music..... plus the pre-amp & screen on my Toshiba player is much better than the newer iPods.

Oddly I don't listen to radio much at all anymore.
I used to tell people I wait 9 months at a time to turn on the radio so I could hear all 3 new songs for a week then shut it off again. Now I just don't bother. I have 3 kids, ages range from 10-14, and a wife who listens to broadcast so I'm at least familiar with today's style. When I'm driving I prefer quiet. But I do enjoy the wealth of previously recorded music all the way from pre-1900 (Yes I play the Victrola):

I love songs I grew up with in the 60's up to early 80's. I couldn't give you a name for even one recently modern musician/band.

My music taste stretches across an entire millennium which provide quite a variety. I might listen to the Ramones one day then Helen Kane the next, then Sabbath before hearing Guy Lombardo. Who knows maybe have a good cry with Patty Loveless at times.

I'd like to somehow incorporate all of this into my new music style- if I can get it off the ground.
